West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDCL), the power supply company in the south-western region, will save crores of rupees. Two engineers of the company do not need to spend a huge amount of money to implement an innovative process. Apart from this, about half a lakh rupees will be saved every month only for data storage. Through this, accidents will be reduced in sub-centres. The company has already used that innovative process.
Until now, the company had to manually record data from all 33/11 KV substations, Ojopadico sources said. An engineer had to go to the centers and collect data. Also, to switch on and off the lines of the substations, the person concerned had to stand in front of the high voltage line and switch it on and off - which is risky.Debashish Pal, executive engineer of the company's system control and protection wing, and Kalyan Kumar Debnath, sub-divisional engineer, developed a new low-cost process to solve these problems. In order to prevent such accidents and save huge amount of money.
Innovator engineer Kalyan Kumar Debnath said, I have been facing various problems for a long time in power supply continuous monitoring, control, data digitization and safe operation of substations. To solve these problems, the electricity automation system existing in the current market has to be imported from abroad. The cost of imported necessary parts for such a sub-centre is about 1 crore 10 lakh taka.
A phase of research has been successful in the past year in taking effective steps to reduce excess costs and prevent accidents. With its own technology, a system was invented at a cost of only 10 lakh rupees, through which most of the benefits of the electricity automation system imported from abroad will be available. There will be no dependence on foreign engineers for future expansion.
An operator can control and monitor the current status of the substation from his desk computer. As the whole process is digital, it can be done through computer. I named this process, Low Cost Substation Automation System (SAS) With SCADA. On the other hand, centralized electricity meter readings had to be recorded manually in log books. An engineer would visit the centers and record these readings. It was a waste of time and money. Implementation of this technology will save both money and time.He said that before the implementation of this idea, a person used to spend about 165 hours a month just to save the log book. Now time consumption will be only 1 hour. On the other hand, considering travel and human resources, the financial cost was around 54,500 taka. After the implementation of the technology, the current cost is only two and a half to three thousand rupees.
Another inventor, executive engineer Debashish Pal, said this is a groundbreaking step for the power supply company. We have used this technology in a sub-centre as a pilot project. I got 100% success. Implementation of this technology in 8 more sub-centres is under process. Inventor Debashish said, many times the information stored in the logbook gets lost, now that is no longer a possibility. On the one hand, the cost is reduced, on the other hand, the security and control of the employees is easier.
The Ministry of Power organizes 'Innovative Project Exhibition' every year. Among 30 innovation ideas from 16 power-related organizations across the country participated in this exhibition. Our innovation won second place.
